Elista Opening Cermony
The technical meeting was held in the playing hall about 5 km from the Chess City. The playing venue is the same as in the World Championship match in September 2006.
At 6 o'clock busses transported everybody to the opening ceremony held in open air in the rural Putinsky Liman about 25 km from Elista.
Focus was on local traditions and way of life, and after being met by riders escorting the busses the last stretch, we were shown eagles, local (huge, 1 ton plus) bulls and other domestic animals. Next there was a kamel race featuring both professional riders as well as less trained equipages.
The drawing of lots was followed by a nice dinner in big tents.
In the drawing of lots Aronian chose a box with a black sheep and Magnus will start with white tomorrow at 3 o'clock local time (12 GMT).

Speeches of president Ilyumzhinov, chief arbiter Filipowicz, the main sponsor, examples of local folk dance and folk song accompanied the drawing of lots which was based on choosing big boxes containing a black or white sheep !
A memorable ceremony included a reunion of candidate Gata Kamsky and his 12 year old kamel received as a gift during his FIDE World Championship match with Karpov in 1996, but left in Elista to ensure it was raised and trained in the proper local manner. The suggestion that he should take it with him on the plane back to the US may be a bit optimistic!The drawing of lots was followed by a nice dinner in big tents.

Just regarding one point Magnus made in the net meeting at Nettavisen about winning with white and drawing with black, thus scoring 4.5 points...that's actually a mistake! The reason is simply that as soon as someone has 3.5 points or more, the match will be stopped. So since Magnus ended up with white in rounds 1, 3 and 5, he'll have 4 points after round 5 if he manages to win all his whites and draw his black games. Then game 6 won't be played, so he won't score 4.5 points. :-)
But I guess we all can live with that!

Hello, i think the best way for Carlsen to get a draw against levon with white can be possible with C4 in frist move.
1.C4 and Aronian will play Nf6 or e5? English opening fit best for a draw in this important matches.

I get a little desapoinment about Magnus in this match against Levon, maybe he was tired or something like that because i don't see the enough enthusiasm witch i've been looking him in past really... what happend?? he's ausome and i admire him so much but i really think that he never gave his 100% of his effort... i'm a little sad but I REALLY THINK THAT HE WILL CONTINUE RASING HIS SELF AND IS GOING TO BE BETTER ON FUTURE, EVEN HE'S GOING TO RETUN MEXICO, of course he will be one of the 4th candidates. GO AHEAD MAGNUS!! YOU ARE THE BEST!!! YOU ARE THE FIRST ONE ON MY LIST OF CHESS PLAYERS ^_^ don't worry!!!...

Well Magnus if you are reading this post, daily I hope can be the source of new energy that you can apply to chess. Aronian is a difficult chess player and in this moment probably is number one in the world I do not know if
you can agree with me or not, but the issue is that

I dont think it is fair to say that Magnus didnt gave 100% . For me it looked like Aronian played a very good game. This was Aronian at his very best, which (still) is better than Magnus at his average. Magnus can still make it and if he doesnt make
it this time he will very soon become better than Aronian.
The future belongs to Magnus.
All players have ups and downs. We will be happy when he suceed and we should be calm when he loose. I belewe he will be worldchamp one day, but he will have to play many games before that and of course some he will loose. So is life.
