Beating Aronian in round 3 !
Round 3 is old news by now (internet doesn't work in an acceptable way in Chess City but here in the press centre its fine).
But, as Magnus won, I guess a few comments are in order anyway.
After the first round loss with white, winning yesterday was necessary to maintain the excitement of the match. Magnus has shown the ability to come back many times, but none as difficult as this one. He was of course extremely happy and relieved to be back in the match, although the remainder will be quite difficult as he faces two black and one white game.
Magnus was better after the opening, but missed the promising continuation 19.Qf4 as he had only seen Qd8 20. cxd4 Nxd4 21. Rad1 with the "trick" Nxf3 and Nxe1+, while 21.Red1 is clearly better for white. He thought the endgame was better for white, and both players seemed to think Rc3 was a mistake as they didn't beleave Rc1 Nxe4 would hold for black despite the extra pawn. After Re4 Magnus was winning, although Aronian continued to fight until move 41.
We played football in the local sports centre and having forgotten to bring money to pay for the lease and Aronian (who arrived simultaneously for a game of table tennis) helped us out with both the translation and lending us the money. A fine gesture by a fine person!
In the end we did not go to the Bermuda party and ended up seeing "Monthy Pyton - The quest for the Holy Grail" for the umpteenth time instead...
On the free day we have enjoyed a record 40oC, Russian billiard and a couple of rounds of bowling (I won't brag about who the winner was....)

Great! Magnus is really making an impressive effort!
Nice to hear about Aronian, he seems like a nice guy!
Best luck for the rest of the games!
Maybe Magnus should play the Nimzo-indian tomorrow? or maybe not....

ellers må du nok bare bite tenna i sammen, dissa idiotene

Wonderful game, Magnus! There's no doubt Magnus-Aronian is the best fight of the tournament in the round 1. Both players are very tactical. I hope you keep working hard over there in Russia.

Unasett: Parti tre var en kanonprestasjon! Lykke til videre.

Keep up the good play!
Winning the match should be easier than having to ".. cut down the mightiest tree in the forest ... with a herring"

Gratulerer.

Hei Magnus og Henrik!
Seieren i 5. runde var bare enorm. Dette er virkelig stort og forferdelig morsomt. Magnus, du fortsetter å imponere. Her går det kanskje mot Tiebrake!
Stå på!

Well done today. What a find 36.f4, rather than f3!!
Henrik, I'm sure Magnus couldn't care less at this stage of his life, but I have you know that his playing style and his personality are making an elderly English lady very happy..
It is uplifting to follow his games. For me he is filling the gap that Kasparov's retirement left behind.

Nice words from Joanna there! Great to see all the nationalities represented in the celebration of Magnus' chess games!
It is remarkable that he has now won 2 games against Aronian! Magnus is 16 years! He started playing chess some 7 years ago! It is absolutely stunning.
Henrik must be so delighted with his sons achievements!
Do any of the other guys travel with their dad? :-)
If not, they should borrow Magnus' dad!
Please tell Magnus that lots and lots of fans follow his games every day!
Can't wait for the next game tomorrow! If Magnus lose tomorrow, it's OK, he has done a great match no matter what! But of course we hope for a victory with black! Only one remis so far in this match...

Utrolig prestasjon igjen, Magnus!

Congratulations, Magnus! Your play in the fifth game today was absolutely brilliant. I have been following your games closely for the last two years, and I am deeply impressed by the progress you have shown. The sky seems to be the limit. However, not only your superb chess makes me feel proud being a norwegian. Your behaviour, treating all with respect and keeping your feet on the ground also warms. There has been far too much fighting and personal conflicts lately, and thus I am happy to see Kramnik mentioning you and Svidler as hard fighting, but respectful and nice guys. Eric Moscow also highlighted the respect you and other people (Lahlum especially) showed him at Gausdal, in contrast to other parts of the chess community. Keep on being an honest and nice guy, with no double agendas. In the long run you will have a better life that way. Regarding tomorrows game against Aronian, I wish you all the best. You have absolutely nothing to loose - nobody can demand a win with black against a much more experienced player, ranked as number five in the world. The pressure is on his shoulders. I will be extremely happy if you win the match, tomorrow or on tiebreak, but in any case your have performed excellent in Elista. And the future belongs to you. As Susan Polgar says, and she is obviously a fan of your chess style: "Magnus is the real deal". Your parents, and not to mention your sisters, must be very proud of you! And Henrik, thanks a lot for providing lots of interesting information on this blog. By the way, your english is really impressing.

"The bravest, most exciting player in the field"
(chessbase.com),
I second that wholeheartedly. It was a wonderful week, largely due to you. We will miss you so much next week, and it won't be a very exciting WCC without you.
Have a great summer and I look forward to your next appearance on the big stage.
