Dortmund Round 3.

Yesterday Magnus had white against co-leader Alekseev and was eager to score his first full point.
He was slightly surprised about the opening choice of Alekseev and opted for a well known line that Magnus thinks erroneously is considered equal. He felt quite confident as white putting pressure on the c and d pawns.
After some tactics white emerged a pawn up in a double rook ending. Magnus thought he had good winning chances, but Alekseev defended well and when Magnus played Ke1 and Rg4 it is only a draw.
He thinks he should have tried Re5 instead.
Anyhow it was an interesting ending and the 1+3 against 3 pawns with the white kingside pawn structure h2, g3, g5 is clearly worth a more detailed study.

Waiting for Alekseev.

There he is.

Today Magnus faces Kramnik with the black pieces, a truly difficult task although he managed to draw as black in Corus.

Maia and Mark, thank you!
Vidar,
det har nok med manglende overskudd å gjøre. Går bedre idag tror jeg!
